Life on a farm

We moved farms from Covington to Winterville, GA, and our friend Andre wrote about it. "But really, you don't move farms, you build them again from scratch". Join us for the adventure (ie, scroll down) and see what we did  ;)
January 1st, 2019: We are in the process of expanding our farm a couple more acres.  We had the opportunity to lease some ready to go, fertile farm land across the street from us; at Roots Farm.  Formally farmed by Full Moon Farm.  This is an exciting opportunity for us and we are looking forward to what 2019 has in store.
Nov 2018:  The farm crew getting it done.  They just put up 2 Farmers Friend quick hoops.

This is a overhead veiw of the farm.  It is amazing how much we have accomplished in 4 years.  This was a blank peice of land in 2012

Not exactly an Ikea project, but we're almost done constructing the hoop houses. The post are driven in.  The arches are up, and the baseboards and purlins are on. Many more to go.

We started putting up the hoop last weekend. This is a somewhat involved process of leveling the ground, driving in stakes and assembling arches. Hopefully next weekend we will lift the arches up (like a barn raising?) onto the stakes, attach the purlins and a base.  Then we'll build the end walls and cover everything in plastic.

As you can see in the picture we have some lovely Georgia red clay.  We will be adding a bunch of compost and other amendments to to soil to make it a happy place for the plants to grow in.

Here on the farm we have been getting ready for the spring.  We have been catching up on all our paper work from last year, taxes and all that fun stuff.  We have been working on the 2013 farm plan.  Ordering seed. Digging deep in to seed catalogs to find exciting new things to grow. Planning how much to grow and when to plant it.   It is like conducting an orchestra.  Everything needs to be in harmony in order to have a great season.

Building a house and moving a farm.  Some might say we are crazy for doing both at the same time.

Feb 26, 2012: Farm Expansion
We are excited to announce that we purchased a new piece of property located in Winterville, GA. This land will give us the ability to expand and grow more wonderful produce.
